It's been a REALLY great ride. I started Spinnaker 45 years ago with Rich & Rick. We split the companies up in '91` and Rick was bought out. Rich still operates Spinnaker Redwood City and is one of my very best friends...see him every week when we play in our band.
I'm 69 and it's time to move on. We successfully pivoted during COVID from focusing on corporate charters to sailing lessons. We completely re-wrote the curriculum and produced an extensive video library supporting the classes and published these to YouTube. The company is healthy and has an amazing team consisting of 5 full-time and 15 part-time employees that have dedicated themselves to Spinnaker, some for over 20 years.
We rent land to place the building we own inside Pier 40, South Beach Harbor and have done so since the harbor opening in 1985. Our current location is probably some of the most prime waterfront in SF. We currently pay $1.10 sq/ft for the land we lease as we are a maritime tenant to the Port there is a mandate to accommodate us.
We control all the super-prime frontage double slips from A-2 through C-1 and all the space in-between those berths. We also lease up to 100' of the Guest dock at the very front of it adjacent to the office.
Our facilities include:
- Main office of 1344 sq/ft (24x56) includes a conference/classroom, reception area, private office & galley (which can be converted back into office)
- 160 SQ/FT container workshop filled with tools, repair materials and spares for the fleet
- 3 additional storage units of approximately 250 sq/ft on property leased from the Port of SF
- 80 sq/ft secure storage area for catering support including ice machine and racks.
