SAILING LESSONS

  • WHAT TO BRING - Students should dress appropriate for the weather. Proper attire includes soft-soled tennis or deck shoes (NO BLACK SOLES PLEASE). Sunscreen, Hats and glasses are a great idea. Dress in Layers and warmly. Foulies are suggested for higher level classes.
  • CLASS CANCELLATIONS - 7 Days notice is required for reschedule or full refund. If notice is given within 7 days of the class there will be a $100 per day re-schedule fee applied and you are no longer available for a refund.
  • MAKE-UPS - Students are encouraged to attend all of their classes as scheduled. If regular class times are inconvenient, private instruction should be arranged. Makeup classes are available without a reschedule fee if the student has given Spinnaker at least 7 days notice and another similar class has space available. Make ups are available with less than seven days notice but there is a Makeup Fee of $100/per day.
  • COURSE MATERIALS - Cost of books, ASA certification tracking & certification tests are extra if you choose to get certified, which we strongly suggest.
  • LEARN TO SAIL GUARANTEE - A free makeup class is provide for any student who fails to meet the required objectives for certification. Students must have attended each scheduled class and taken all prerequisite classes at Spinnaker Sailing within the past 3 months. Make-up must be same level.

BAREBOAT CHARTERS

  • CURRENT SKILLS. All charterers must be able to show proof of charter experience of a similar boat to that which they are looking to charter in similar conditions to San Francisco Bay within the past 90 days to be current. If this is not the case, a checkout exam is required to demonstrate proficiency.
  • VISITING CHARTERERS. Anyone who hasn't taken lessons from Spinnaker Sailing - SF is required to go through a checkout exam. This is a two step process with written exams being administered prior to on-water exams. These exams cannot happen on the same day. The on-waterater exam is exactly that, there is no instruction during this exam. A 100% score is required to pass the on water exam and at the point at which a skill isn't properly demonstrated, the checkout test is over and we return back to the dock. The first step to the checkout process is to fill out and return a Sailing résumé.
  • TIMELY CHARTERING. Graduates of a particular level of qualification (i.e. Basic Coastal Cruising, Sportboat, Intermediate Coastal Cruising) must charter within 30 days of graduation date/certification. If this is not possible than a check out exam will likely be required prior to chartering.
  • BAREBOAT CANCELLATIONS - 72 hours notice is required for reschedule or full refund. If notice is given within 72 hours of the charter, there is a 50% fee for last minute cancellation.
  • CLUB DUES - Members of the club have dues of $65/mo and must be in good standing in order to charter boats from us. Check out our CLUB PAGE for more information regarding our club memberships.
  • HALF DAY CHARTERS (Only available for MEMBERS)
    9am - 1pm
    1pm - 5pm (6pm daylight savings only)
  • MEMBER RATES - member rates are available to members of the sailing club in good standing. Club membership is required for all charters with the exception of students of the school who can charter at nonmember rates without having to join the sailing club.
