Welcoming Another Boat to the Spinnaker Sailing Charter Fleet
There’s always something special about welcoming another boat into the Spinnaker Sailing charter fleet. Each vessel that joins our program represents a

partnership with an owner who wants their boat to sail more often, stay exceptionally well cared for, and help offset the real costs of ownership.
Many boats spend far too much time sitting unused at the dock. Through our charter management programs, owners are able to keep their boats active in a structured, professionally managed environment while maintaining unlimited personal access whenever they want to head out on the Bay.
At Spinnaker Sailing, we place a strong emphasis on the quality of the sailors who operate vessels in our fleet. One of the things owners consistently appreciate most is how carefully we qualify everyone who steps aboard their boat. Our clients receive high-quality training and operate to strong seamanship standards before being approved for independent use. This careful screening process helps ensure boats remain in excellent condition throughout their time in the program and gives owners confidence that their vessel is in capable hands.
We also offer multiple participation options depending on the age and type of vessel. Many older boats are an excellent fit for our bareboat charter fleet, where they remain active and well maintained while generating revenue when not in use by the owner. Newer vessels are often especially well suited for our Timeshare Sailing program, which is one of the most effective and owner-friendly ways a boat can be utilized.
In the Timeshare Sailing program, there are only seven participants maximum using each vessel, and every one of them is highly qualified and invested in caring for the boat properly. This creates a structured, predictable usage environment that balances strong access for sailors with excellent long-term stewardship of the vessel. For many owners, this represents the ideal combination of activity, reliability, and cost-sharing support.
Just as important as who sails the boats is how they are maintained. One of the strengths of the Spinnaker program is our in-house technical capability. Our team includes a professional detailer, a line-rated diesel mechanic, and a veteran rigger and fabricator. There are very few things on a sailboat that we can’t handle directly, which allows us to respond quickly, keep vessels looking their best, and maintain them to a high operational standard throughout the year. Owners consistently appreciate knowing their boat is being looked after by experienced professionals who understand both sailing systems and long-term vessel care.
Owners in our charter management program continue to enjoy unlimited personal use of their boat whenever they choose. Meanwhile, our team handles advertising and promotion, client qualification, routine maintenance inspections, and charter coordination. With over 45 years of experience managing boats on San Francisco Bay, our goal is always to make ownership easier, more enjoyable, and more financially sustainable.
We also currently have a limited number of prime slips available at South Beach Harbor. For owners considering placing a boat into charter management, this
creates a rare opportunity to combine professional fleet placement with one of the most desirable sailing locations on the Bay.
If you’ve been thinking about how to make your boat more active while helping offset ownership costs, charter management may be worth exploring. At Spinnaker Sailing, we’re always happy to talk through whether your vessel would be a good fit and which program option would serve you best.
