Bareboat Charter Requirements
To do a bareboat charter with us, you must either:
- Have completed sailing courses with us and obtained the necessary certifications (must be current) or
- Successfully complete a checkout process.
Required Certifications by Boat
- Andrews 21 & Santana 22: ASA 101, ASA 103
- J/80: ASA 101, ASA 103, ASA 102
- J/105: ASA 101, ASA 103, ASA 102, ASA 104, ASA 105
No ASA Certifications? No Problem!
If you don’t have ASA certifications, we can assess your sailing experience and may waive the certification requirement. Alternatively, you can take the written ASA exams at our office to obtain the necessary credentials.
The On-Water Checkout
Before chartering, you must pass an on-water checkout, which is a comprehensive skills assessment covering:
-
Docking
-
Reefing
-
Boat handling
-
And MUCH more (see the full assessment list HERE)
-
Cost: $300
-
Passing Requirement: 100% (failure on any item results in an automatic fail)
To ensure success, we highly recommend familiarizing yourself with the boat and sailing area beforehand. A failed test requires rebooking and payment of a new checkout fee.
On-water checkouts & bareboat charters can never be booked on the same day
