Bareboat Cruising - ASA 104

This class is for graduates of the Basic Coastal Cruising program who want to qualify to charter up to 35 foot sailboats at Spinnaker Sailing. The course gives students an opportunity to take a mid-size sailboat on an overnight cruise. Classes run Saturday and Sunday, 9-5 and are typically held one day aboard a performance raceboat the next day aboard a cruising boat both in the 35 foot range. Classes are held on the north side of San Francisco Bay (Angel Island, Treasure Island, etc.) where students make confidence-building leadership decisions on docking and sailing in the Bay's challenging conditions. To qualify for the class, students must have already achieved ASA Basic Coastal Cruising certification, and must have at least 8 days' sailing experience as skipper of a 22-29 foot boat or obtain approval prior to registration.

ASA Bareboat Cruising (Bareboat Charter) certification is awarded upon successful completion of the on-water and written portions of this course; graduates will be certified to sail 35 foot yachts in San Francisco Bay. At more-sedate locations outside the Bay, BBC-certified sailors may be permitted to charter larger boats, up to 50'.  This certification is required at most charter locations worldwide. ASA is proud to offer the first International Proficiency Certificate (IPC) for sailors available in the United States. This certificate is mandatory when chartering in most European / Mediterranean waters. It serves as proof of bareboat charter competency for Mediterranean chartering companies, many of whom require the proficiency information displayed in a different format than the ASA Log Book.  You simply apply to ASA for the IPC at the end of your 104 class giving you access to charter fleet throughout the world. Being certified in ASA 105, Coastal Nav is a BIG plus for worldwide chartering as well!
